ABOUT THE AUTHOR

Meet Ted Spaulding

Ted Spaulding is a Georgia plaintiff's trial attorney who represents injured people against insurance companies in car accident, premises liability, and wrongful death claims across the Atlanta metro. He founded Spaulding Injury Law in 2005 and has practiced Georgia personal injury law for more than two decades, handling car accident claims from the first phone call through verdict rather than referring litigation out.

He studied at the University of Georgia, where he double-majored in criminal justice and sociology, and earned his law degree at Georgia State College of Law. He was admitted to the State Bar of Georgia in November 2005, and is also admitted before the United States District Court for the Northern District of Georgia and the United States Court of Appeals for the Eleventh Circuit. During law school he clerked for a Superior Court judge in Fulton County and interned in the Atlanta enforcement division of the Securities and Exchange Commission, work that pointed him toward the civil plaintiff's side.

Ted built the firm around the Atlanta metro rather than a single address. The practice serves Atlanta out of its downtown location, operates the firm's Lawrenceville office in Gwinnett County, maintains an Alpharetta location in north Fulton, and covers Forsyth County from Cumming. Nearly all of that work is plaintiff-side personal injury, with car accident claims the largest share.

The result Ted points to first is a case where the insurance company offered $550,000 two days before trial, an amount that barely covered his client's medical bills and expenses. He told the client it was functionally a zero offer, that he was ready to try the case, and that the decision belonged to the client. They tried it. After a four-day trial the jury returned a verdict of $3.28 million for a client who had undergone permanent surgery with hardware in his neck and carried lost wages and permanent impairments. What Ted takes from it is not the number. It is that the client understood the risk on both sides before he chose, which is the only way he thinks that decision should ever get made. His attorney profile sets out the rest of his recognitions and memberships.

That case is also why this book exists. A Georgia car accident claim rewards people who understand the sequence and quietly punishes people who do not, and almost everything Ted has spent twenty years explaining on the phone is in these chapters. He hosts the Atlanta Car Accident Attorneys podcast, which the conversations in this book were adapted from, maintains a professional presence on LinkedIn and Instagram, and is licensed and in good standing with the State Bar of Georgia.

The motto he settled on a long time ago is real lawyers helping real people, and he means both halves of it literally. Real lawyers, because clients talk to him directly rather than being handed to a case manager, and because the firm tries cases instead of stopping at the pre-litigation stage. Real people, because a client is a person going through something and not a file number. If you were injured in an accident in Georgia and you are not sure what your options are, you can schedule a free consultation with no obligation.
